Ballyhane
Stud covers over three
hundred acres of top quality grassland in the heart of County
Carlow, under one hour from Dublin, Goffs and the Curragh. Within
a few miles are to be found the racing stables of Willie Mullins,
Jim Bolger, and Pat Fahy among others.
Ballyhane
is split into three separate studs, the public stud housing
the stallions, and two private studs boarding our own mares
and youngstock. The public stud is situated right on the edge
of Leighlinbridge. The main house is over 300 years old and
was originally a friary. The stud here is centred around the
stallion yard, adjacent to which are the separate turn out paddocks
where the stallions can relax during the day.
Recent years have seen a lot of development at Ballyhane.
All visitors will notice the new office complex immediately
upon entering. Behind the stallion yard are newly constructed
veterinary facilities, covering yards, and dutch barns for visiting
mares and fillies, including a specially contructed barn for
maiden and barren mares, specially enclosed to help them keep
warmer during the winter, thus cycle earlier.
All
visiting mares and fillies are housed in barns, and turned
out in nearby paddocks during daytime. All feeds are carefully
monitored with the help of a professional nutritionalist,
and with his guidance we mix our own feeds from basic natural
ingredients to give all our horses a properly balanced diet.
